A motorcycle accident left a man in critical condition in Jacksonville yesterday. The man lost control of the motorcycle on a turn in the road. He was thrown from his bike and struck a tree and pole. The driver, whose identity was not released, was transported to Shands Jacksonville.

A 29-year-old Tennessee woman was killed while walking along U.S.1 today. Chariti Hurd was walking along the median after the car she was a passenger in ran out of gas. She was struck by a sport-utility vehicle driven by Dustin Devos, 39, at about 6 a.m. Devos was attempting to pass the vehicle Hurd had been a passenger in when he hit her. Hurd died at the scene.

A single motorcycle crash killed a 53-year-old West Virginia man Monday night. Paul Allen Jarrett was on State Road 15 when he lost control of his motorcycle and hit a barbwire fence. Jarrett was ejected and died at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet. Authorities are investigating.

A multiple vehicle crash last night left three with minor injuries. The accident caused a chain reaction involving five vehicles including a patrol car. It began when driver Kathleen Ferno, 57, rear-ended a truck driven by Ginger Sturiale, 27. Then a vehicle driven by Jennifer Hale, 24, tried to avoid the cars but was struck by Michael Korgan, 41. Hale’s vehicle was thrown into the path of a patrol car driven by David Ikeguchi. Ferno, Hale and Korgan all suffered minor injuries.

A fatal crash occurred yesterday during the start of Bike Week. The accident happened around 4:30 in New Smyrna Beach. Two motorcycles collided near South Atlantic and Fifth Avenue and ejected Linda Lockwood and her driver Russell Luce. Lockwood, 45, was taken to Bert Fish Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. Luce was airlifted to Halifax Health Medical Center with serious injuries. David Levesque, 40, and Jennifer Levesque, 37, were both on the other motorcycle and suffered minor injuries. The accident is under investigation.

An unidentified pedestrian was killed this week when a car struck him. The man was standing in a turn lane on Curry Ford Road when he was hit by a car driven by Vincent Thomas, 20. The victim, who authorities believe was around 55 or 60-years-old, died at Orlando Regional Medical Center. Thomas was not injured and will not face charges.

An Altamonte Springs man has been sentenced to 7 years in prison after an accident that killed one of his passengers. Matthew Hall, 25, registered a blood alcohol content of almost twice the legal limit when he crashed his vehicle. He was driving 80 mph in a 30 mph zone when he lost control and hit a tree. The front seat passenger, Christopher Avery, 19, was killed. The back seat passenger survived. Hall suffered numerous broken bones and a head injury. On Wednesday, Hall pleaded guilty to DUI-manslaughter.
