A retired Port Orange firefighter was killed this weekend in an accident at his home. Charles Johnson was in his driveway when his Jeep began to roll and ran over him. Johnson died from injuries sustained in the accident.

A Port Orange man was killed early this morning in a single car crash. Anthony Hemingway Jr., 20, was speeding on Spruce Creek Road when he lost control. The car then struck a patch of trees. Hemingway was pronounced dead at Halifax Health Medical Center.

An accident involving a sport utility vehicle sent three people to the hospital. The victims were found in the overturned car on Dunlawton Avenue near Spruce Creek Road. A 91-year-man crashed his car into a Biscuits ‘N’ Gravy restaurant in Port Orange. It appears Charles Pierce stepped on the gas instead of the break while trying to park. Pierce was not injured in the crash. A restaurant patron was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center with minor injuries.

A Port Orange couple was killed on Christmas Eve in a car wreck. Brett Gerken, 56, and Renee Gerken, 49, were on Taylor Road when a vehicle driven by Christopher Price, 35, crashed into their vehicle. Reports show Price was previously arrested for DUI manslaughter in 1995. The accident is under investigation.

A Port Orange man was run over by his truck while on a delivery to Halifax Health Medical Center. Thirty-nine-year-old Mark Raymond Masse died Wednesday from injuries sustained in the accident. Masse was outside his truck when it began to roll and crushed him.

Orange County, FL -- Carl W. Van Wasshnova, 54, from Port Orange, was killed in a tractor trailer crash on Florida's Turnpike in Orlando on Friday night. The November 13th crash occurred when Wasshnova lost control of his semitrailer turning onto the turnpike from South Orange Blossom Trail. His truck veered to the left, crossing a concrete median and guardrail, before entering the northbound turnpike exit ramp lanes, where his truck struck a dual-trailer FedEx truck. The FedEx driver was not injured. Wasshnova was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Port Orange resident Clare Annelis died yesterday from injuries suffered in a car accident in Delaware on Wednesday. She was 73.
Annelis was stopped at the intersection of New Burton Road and Wyoming Avenue, but then pulled her car in front of an on coming pickup truck. Police will not press charges and no other information is available.
A Denver based Lasik surgeon has been found guilty of medical malpractice. Dr. Paul Cutarelli often flew to Las Vegas to perform multiple surgeries in a day before returning home. He was accused of negligence in these operations. The State Board of Medical Examiners found Cutarelli guilty.
A Port Orange home caught on fire Tuesday because of a child playing with matches. The 3-year-old boy, who has a history of playing with fire, was in the home of his great grandparents when the fire erupted.
A Port Orange child was injured Friday while playing on an inflatable slide at school. The 10-year-old girl fell from the slide at Cypress Creek Elementary. The child was transported to the hospital with a possible hip injury.
