Date: May 11, 2009
Location: US Highway 27
Type: Pedestrian accident
Outcome: Deputy Hospitalized

A Polk County sheriff's deputy is hospitalized with a disclocated shoulder.  He was dragged by a suspect in a hit and run accident. Sgt. Bob Barnes was trying to talk Angelene Casanova out of her vehicle near Alternate U.S. Highway 27. Cassanova did not respond to the Barnes so he reached in to get her out when she stepped on the gas. Barne's arm was caught inside the driver's side door.  He was then thrown into another patrol car. Casanova has been charged with aggravated battery, resisting an officer with violence, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, reckless driving and violation of driving restrictions. She also might be charged with DUI.
