Do All General Practitioners Know The Signs Of Cancer? | Daytona Beach Malpractice Attorney

A recent study shows that doctors in the UK have a lack of knowledge when it comes to diagnosing ovarian cancer patients.  A common misdiagnosis for the cancer is IBS (irritable bowel syndrome).  Two thirds of the general practitioners surveyed did not know IBS is a sign of ovarian cancer.

The study, known as the Target Ovarian Cancer Pathfinder, looked at 400 general practitioners in the UK.  The results showed 80% of the doctors had the misconception that there are no symptoms in the early stages of ovarian cancer.  Half of the GP’s knew increased abdominal size is very prevalent.  Only 2% knew “feeling full” or “difficulty eating” was another sign.
