A 43-year-old off-duty deputy has died after being hit by a drunk driver on Florida 51. Gary Edwards was south of Live Oak when driver Pedro Leyva, 53, crashed into the back of his truck and sent it into a pole. Edwards was taken to Shands at the University of Florida where he died Sunday. Leyva has been charged with DUI manslaughter as well as careless driving and having an open container of alcohol.
