Doctors must be careful when administering a new blood thinner approved by the FDA to help prevent heart attacks.

Effient is a new blood thinner that will now compete with Plavix.  The drug comes with serious warnings for doctors for proper administration,  but the FDA believes the benefits out weigh the risks.  The drug will be used only for those undergoing angioplasty and is designed to prevent dangerous blood clotting.  A study on Effient showed it was more effective than Plavix, but caused more internal bleeding.
