Tip Of The Day | Youth Access To Prescription Medicine | Debary Child Injury Lawyer

To prevent youth from using prescription medications, parents should talk to their kids about illicit drug use. And because preventing access is the best defense, it is critical that adults closely monitor medications in the house.

The Office of National Drug Control Policy's Web site, 'Parents. The Anti-Drug.' offers these tips for restricting youth access to prescription medications:

  • Hide all medications in a secure location, which may not be the bathroom medicine cabinet
  • Discard any prescription medications that are left over or expired
  • Alert grandparents and others your children might visit that their prescriptions should always be locked up and hidden away including individual pills, which curious toddlers may put into their mouths
  • Monitor your teenager's internet for any shopping on pharmaceutical Web sites
