Vicodin, Percocet May Cause Liver Damage | Daytona Beach Medical Malpractice Lawyer

The FDA recently assembled a committee of members to vote on the use of acetaminophen in prescription drugs.  They voted on eliminating drugs such as Vicodin and Percocet due to the high risk of liver damage.  The FDA is not required to follow the recommendations of the committee.

Acetaminophen is also in drugs such as Tylenol and NyQuil.  The committee is meeting on how to reduce the risks of liver damage in these over the counter drugs as well.

A study showed acetaminophen overdoses resulted in 56,000 emergency room visits and 458 deaths in the 1990’s.   The CDC also estimated in 2007 acetaminophen could cause 1,600 liver failures per year.
