Matrix Initiatives has voluntarily taken their products Zicam Cold Remedy Swabs and Zicam Cold Remedy Nasal Gel off the market.  This comes after a warning from the Food and Drug Administration.  There have been reports of people loosing their sense of smell after using the drugs.   The effects have been both temporary and permanent.

Both products have zinc as an ingredient and may cause nerve damage.  The FDA never formally approved the products because they fall under the category of homeopathic products that do not require federal review.
