How Do I Get A Copy Of My Accident Report?

To obtain a copy of the Accident/Crash Report, use the contact information and phone numbers to contact the police department in the city where the accident occurred. Be sure to verify with them how much they will charge you for the Long Form Accident Report. Police departments, Volusia County Sheriff's Department and Florida Highway Patrol all have different charges to obtain a copy of the Long Form Accident Report.

Some of the departments charge by the page, others have a set fee. Some departments charge a different fee to pick up a report within 60 days of the accident. Some cities do not have a police department so you must either contact the Volusia County Sheriff's Department or the Florida Highway Patrol.

When you call the police department in the city where the accident occurred, you will need indentifying information like the date, time and location of the accident. Usually, the Florida Highway Patrol covers accidents on the interstate highways and the Volusia County Sheriff's Department responds to accidents in unincorporated traffic areas that are not part of a particular city.

Within 60 days of the accident date, only persons involved in the accident can obtain a copy of the accident report. If you have a Volusia County personal injury attorney representing you in regard to the accident, the attorney can obtain the report 10 days after the accident via mail and attorney offices have guidelines they must follow to obtain the accident report.
